Cemfloor Screed: A Modern Solution for Modern Floors

Hi, I’m Andy Parkin, the Managing Director of Speed Screed, a Multi-Award Winning screeding service. Today I will help you better understand the dynamics of Cemfloor Screed.

What is Cemfloor Screed?

Cemfloor Screed is a cement-based flowing screed. Cemfloor Screed is effectively a mixture of cement, sand, superplasticizer, Cemfloor binder, and water.

Cemfloor Screed is the result of the partnership between McGraths Limestone and Cemexa Technologies. The sole distributor of the product across the UK is McGraths Limestone.

It’s a great additive for screed and it helps the screed to stay clean, avoid shrinkage, improve flowability, and achieve an overall amazing finishing.

The Types

There are three main types of Cemfloor Screed that you can get your hands on. All three of them have some unique characteristics and they cater to different needs when it comes to flooring.

Cemfloor Therm

Designed specifically for use with underfloor heating systems, Cemfloor Therm encapsulates the underfloor heating pipework and leaves no voids.  Combined with the screeds density the product ensures the best thermal conductivity around.

Cemfloor NH

Free-flowing, high performance, self-compacting, liquid screed describes Cemfloor Non-Heated.  Minimal shrinkage and its quick-drying properties mean floor coverings can be laid quicker than traditional screeds.

Cemfloor HPC

Looking for a stronger more durable screed with less shrinkage and increased bay sizes to minimise joints? Then Cemfloor High-Performance Concrete has higher compressive and flexural strengths.  The product lends itself to commercial and industrial projects, with high-quality finishes without the need to power float.

Construction Protocols with Cemfloor Screed

Cemfloor Screed can be used for all kinds of floors. But there are some basic guidelines that should be followed while applying it. It varies from floor type to floor type as well.

Bonded Floors

When you are constructing a bonded floor with Cemfloor Screed, the minimum depth should be at 25mm (50mm for HPC). It’s required that all kinds of debris and dust are removed from the substrate before applying. The use of a good quality bonding agent is recommended for the best results.

Unbonded Floors

The minimum depth is 30mm (65mm for HPC) when it comes to unbonded floors. Similar to the bonded floor, the substrate surface should be clean and free from all kinds of loose tiles or cracks. A polythene membrane should be used between the screed and the substrate.

Floating Floors

Floating floors require a minimum depth of 35mm for Cemfloor Screed. It can go up to 40mm if considering a commercial property (65 & 75mm respectively for HPC). A suitable insulation layer and membrane comes between the substrate and the screed layer to ensure maximum efficiency when it comes to floating floors.

Floating Floors with Underfloor Heating

You can use Cemfloor Therm for underfloor heating, and the coverage over the pipes is a  minimum depth of 25mm (40mm including the pipes)

And no surface laitance to remove before laying your floor coverings!
